New EN71-1/prA2 Safety Requirements of Acoustics Toys

The new draft EN71-1/prA2 standard has been released and is now in the formal voting stage. It is expected to be effective soon. According to the exposure time of sound, the new standard divides sound producing toys into different categories, and formulates different sound pressure requirements for different types of sound toys. Compared with the current toy standards, the testing range of sound toys has been expanded.

Challenge:

New categories of sound producing toys:

1. Wind toys - specifically designed toys that require children or others to make sounds by the blowing action.

2. Speaking Toys - Toys designed to sound by amplifying or distorting the current of the input sound, and the intensity of the output volume depends on the input volume.

3. Toys that are easily confused with ear-proximity toys - similar in shape and structure to ear-proximity toys, and easily mistaken for sound toys of ear-proximity toys.

4. Percussion toys - toys designed to make sounds when struck by a beater, such as a drumstick or hand.

These sound toys are not within the test range of the current EU toy standard EN71-1:2011 sound pressure value requirements, so compliance with the current toy standard does not mean that the product compliance with the new standard.
